The American Legion Auxiliary

We know that military service is a sacrifice for the whole family, so ALA members quietly look for ways to ease the burden—whatever it takes to get that family back on their feet physically, mentally, socially and vocationally. If we don’t have the resources, we connect military families with our partners who do.

In honoring our veterans, one of our core values is to demonstrate and pass on respect for our country and for the flag of the United States of America. We promote patriotic youth programs, most notably the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State and Girls Nation programs, held regionally and nationally in the USA, along with education programs, contests and scholarships in local school systems both in the United States and at our posts around the world.

Making our communities better places in which to live is another core value put into action by American Legion Auxiliary members every day across around the world. Whether supporting the ceremonies throughout the year and assisting our Legionnaires with volunteer activities, ALA members are continuously at work in their communities, demonstrating the compassion and heart they have for those who serve in the military to protect our countries and our freedoms.

  • The ALA's Organizational Structure and Units

With more than 8,000 units around the world, each unit is usually 10 individuals or more—and must be connected with an American Legion post. At Paris Post 1, we have a small Auxiliary with very active members who are always interested in having more members join.

Our Auxiliary is the first international Auxiliary for the American Legion. It was chartered in November of 1919, and has been active for over 100 years. Our Auxiliary officers are elected annually and include positions such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, chaplain, historian, and sergeant-at-arms (specific officers vary by unit).

Committee chairmen are appointed annually by the incoming unit president and may include work with the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, Children & Youth, Community Services, Education, ALA Girls State, Leadership, Membership, National Security, Public Relations, and Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation.

Paris Post 1 is actively seeking new members for our Auxiliary, click here to check if you are eligible. You have to be related to an American veteran to qualify. Email us at membership@parispost1.fr if you are interested in joining the Paris Post 1 Auxiliary!
